This a quote from H. Q. L's notebooks: "Richard was low, heavyset, of light complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, vigorous, never sick; died suddenly from apoplexy. He was well-educated in high school; became a physician, storekeeper and farmer; was a democrat in politics; moved from Amherst County, Virginia before 1810 to Cumberland County, Kentucky, to LaFayette County, Missouri before 1832 and into Tebo Township, Henry County, Missouri in 1833. He was a slave owner, about eleven field hands, sold off after his death and house servants."1
