Mary "Polly" Wade was born about 1785, in Halifax County, Virginia, the daughter of Hampton Wade and Elizabeth Torian. She married William P. Burton on January 3, 1805, in Halifax County, Virginia. (Another source states marriage date of December 12, 1803.) He was born 1783, and died January 29, 1865 in Kemper County, Mississippi.
Their two eldest sons, Hutchens Burton and Thomas Farrar Burton, married and moved to Sumter County, Alabama, and Kempter County, Mississippi, prior to the Civil War. In 1861, Hutchens and Thomas came back to Virginia for a wedding, and when they went home Polly and William, along with their widowed daughter, Mary Bolen Burton and her children, went with them. After the war, Thomas Farrar and Mary Bolen joined a group that relocated to Jackson County, Arkansas. I have noted that says "ten of the children of Polly and William moved to Jackson County, Arkansas, right after the war between the states" but I do not know at this time whether Polly and William went with them.1 |
