ObituaryJanuary 9, 1961An obituary for John Oliver Bohannon appeared on January 9, 1961 in Brazil Daily News, Brazil, Clay County, Indiana. Brazil Daily News Jan 9, 1961

John Bohannon, 88 years old, a former cabinet maker and a retired farm Manager of 307 East Blaine Street, died at 10:49 o'clock Saturday night in the Clay County Hospital, where he had been taken some 8 hours earlier for emergency treatment, a victim of a chronic heart ailment. He had been in failing health for several months.

Born near Bowling Green, May 1872, he was the son of the late Abner and Palmyra (Garvin) Bohannon, whose families were prominent in the early development of this area. As a young man he went to Missouri where he spent several years as a farm manager in the vicinity of Savannah, MO. When he returned to Brazil, his skill as a cabinetmaker made him a valuable employee of the former Knight Brinkerhoff Piano Company. In 1924 he was appointed a position at the Indiana State Farm, where he remained until 1938. He later worked for the Continental Carnavar Corporation until his retirement at the age of 82.

Long active in Masonic affairs, he was a member of the Centennial Lodge 341 A&FM, Brazil Council 49 M&SM, a past Commander of Brazil Commandry NO 47, Knights Templar, and a past Worthy Patron of Brazil Chapter No 30 of the Eastern Star. An official member of the First Methodist Church, he served on the official Church Board.

Until his health began to fail Mr. Bohannon had been active and industrious and he enjoyed keeping busy. His jovial disposition was reflected by his obliging manner and unfailing kindness and consideration to others. He was a splendid citizen and a good neighbor and he will be missed by his many friends.

Surviving are his wife Mrs. Elda Bohannon, a son Curtis A Bohannon of Greenville, Illinois, a stepdaughter Mrs. Raymond Michel of Batesville, three step sons: Lewis B Webster of Tampa, Florida, Austin D Webster of Kankakee, Illinois, and Robert W Webster of Brazil, two grandsons Curtis J, and Jerry Bohannon and a great grandson Tony Curtis Bohannon of Greenville, Illinois, and some step grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Lawson Chapel at 2 pm Tuesday, The Rev Chester A Mahan of the first Methodist Church and the Masonic Rites of Centennial Lodge 841 will be in charge, with members of the lodge serving as casket bearers. A Guard of Honor and an Honorary Escort will be provided by Knights Templar Commandry.

Friends may call at the Lawson Funeral Home at any time.1
