  • [S13317] Obituary of William Mathews, http://www.lindapages.com/marshall/obitm.htm,
    N MEMORIAM
WILLIAM MATHEWS, the youngest and last surviving son of JOHN and SUSIE PLUESSINGER MATHEWS, was born April 13, 1825 and departed this life August 15, 1917 being 92 years four months and two days of age.

He was born in Washington County, Pa., and when but a child his parents moved to what is now Bellton, W. Va. After residing there for a few years the family moved to Big Run. Here he resided until death came, his last earthly home being with his son, M. B. Mathews. He was a life long member of the Christian church, his father being in his later years a minister of that faith.

William Mathews and SUSAN SAMPSON were united in marriage Nov. 8, 1845. To this union twelve children were born. EMMA K. MATHEWS, MARY A. CHARNOCK, JOHN W. MATHEWS and SUSAN JANE MATHEWS had already preceded him to the better land. The latter was the first buried in the present Big Run cemetery.

Besides the aged wife who is now past 90 years of age, he leaves the following children: GEORGE A., S. HUEY, WILLIAM D., and MAYES B. MATHEWS all of Cameron; MRS. GILMORE RINE of Rosby Rock, MRS. IRWIN MANNING of Cameron, JAMES of Malago, Ohio, and JACOB A. MATHEWS of Hopedale, Ohio. Also 51 grandchildren.

His body was conveyed to its last resting place by his grandsons LUTHER MATHEWS, R.E. MATHEWS of Hopedale, ROY and BELL MANNING of Cameron, and W. G. RINE of Moundsville.

Call not back the dear departed,
Anchored safe where storms are o'er
We shall find our missing loved one
    In our Father's mansion fair.
