  • [S987] Cemeteries in Shelby County, Kentucky (Shelby County Historical Society, (1978)), Christiansburg Cemetery, Garril Louis Kueber Sr.
Pages 113-129. Christiansburg Cemetery is located northwest of Bagdad. Drive west on Ky 12 for 1.7 miles and turn right onto the Fry-Christiansburg Road. Travel north for one mile. The cemetery is on the right alongside the highway.
Christiansburg is one of the older villages in Shelby County. The Six Mile Baptist Church (now the Christiansburg Baptist Church) may have been organized here as early as 1799 and some of the burials in the cemetery probably date from that period. A small group of stores and churches was established to serve the surrounding farms and by 1850 there were about 300 inhabitants. The growth of the town was aided by the fact that for some years it was the only community in the central part of the county to have railroad service.
The cemetery occupies an irregularly shaped area of about two acres across the highway from the Baptist church. No maintenance is provided and most of the ground is covered by a thick growth of myrtle. A large number of trees ad saplings have grown up among the graves. Some parts of the cemetery are covered by briars and during much of the year it is almost impossible to move around inside the grounds. Many of the markers are down. This survey was made during March and April 1978.
In our report Christiansburg is spelled with a 's' which is the form in common use today. Originally it was spelled 'Christianburg' and this version is still found on some maps. The rows in the cemetery run from north to south with Row No. 1 being closest to the highway.
