Ben Riddle, who was struck on the head with a chair in East Dallas one week ago Monday died, died yesterday at his home near Elam, in this county. The altercation in which he was hurt took place near the Fair Grounds.
A.H. Brown, who had previously been released on bond of $500 on a charge of assault to murder, gave himself up to the Sheriff yesterday afternoon and was released on bond for $200 upon waiver before Justice W.M. 'And Enoch walked with God and was not, for God took him.' These inspired words are in a striking way applicable to John Samuel Riddle who died instantly while resting on hid bed in Dalls last Monday afternoon and was buried from the residence of his son-in-law, L. G. Adams, 173 Willow Street, Tuesday at 1 PM. For most of the hundred and eight days the writer sdat in the courthouse, Bro. Riddle sat almost daily by his side. His presence was like a daily ancestral benediction. Cheery, unselfish, loyal to his convictions, he listened to the trials almost from the opening to the close with scarcely an intermission. Such fidelity stands out on the ocean of life like an island covered with tropical foliage, flowers and fruit perennial.
John Samuel Riddle was born in Shelby Co., Ky, January 1, 1831, nearly 75 yrs ago. He came to Texas in 1882, only one yr. before the writer came to Dallas, and he settled near the Orphans' Home and was for some time deacon of that church. latere he became deacon of the Pleasant Grove Church, about two miles south of the Orphans' Home. His son-in-law, Bro. John Body, lived at Calhoun, on the M.K.& T Railway. Bro Riddle spending much of his time there, became a member and deacon of the Pleasant View church.
Bro. Riddle was a remarkable man, tall,erect, of natural intellectual forces, cheerful by nature, joyous by grace, conservative, constant and true. The writer has never known a finer character and he never saw more sincere filial affection than was shown the deceased by his devoted children. He was twice married. Both his companions preceded him to the world of light. Of seventeen children, sons and daughters, all became baptists except one. One of his sons is a preacher now. Thirteen of his children survive him. They are loyal to the principles their father emphasized in his life. His excellent life and his sudden death were suggestive of Enoch's translation. 'He walked with God and was not, for God took him.' Nearly all of his children resident in Texas were present at the funeral services and accompanied the remains to Pleasant Grove burial ground, 6 miles east of Dallas, where he was laid by the side of his wife, from which with the redeemed of the Lord they will be awakened at last in the final resurrection and be caught up with the returning Savior in the air and so be forever with the Lord.

Obituary of Elizabeth P. Riddle
'died near Elam, Dallas Co .Texas, on Sunday April 1st, Elizabeth, wife of John S. Riddle,aged 59 yrs. Deceased was born in Franklin Co, Ky. She was a member of the Baptist Church forty years. Bro. Riddle lost a loving and faithful companion and the children a mother whose life commended to them that Savior whom she loved and trusted. Seven of her children are Baptists. - J.B.

Died Octuber 23, John P. Riddle, of consumption. Mr. Riddle had been suffering under the ravages of the terrible disease till life was a positive burden, and with a smile and a thankful heart he welcomed the only relief--- death. The funeral took place at Pleasant Mound Cemetery at 6 o'clock p.m. Thursday.

'Nannie C. Stinnett, 60 yrs old died at 11:30 o'clock last night at her home, 2108 Porter avenue. She was born in Frankfort,Kan(sic..KY) and had been a resident of Joplin for 40 years. She was a member of the Empire Baptist Church, and was the widow of Aaron Stinnett, who died in 1934. 'She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Earl Smith,2802 Wall street;four sons,Floyd Stinnett,2630 Schifferdecker avenue;Earl Stinnett,20503 Tyler avenue;Mike Stinnett,3108 Wall street; and Bete[sic-Pete, or Fawn was his given name] of Detroit,Mich;three sisters, Mrs Ethel Adams, Mrs Florence
