| Obituary | | An obituary for Robert Hugh Currin appeared. Obituary, undated, unidentified newspaper: Robert Hugh Currin. Currinsville (Special) - Robert Hugh Currin was the last surviving member of eight children of the late George and Lydia Wade Currin, pioneers, who came to Oregon by wagon train over the Barlow road in 1846. He died Jan. 1 and funeral services were held at the Clayville funeral home in Estacada, Jan. 5 with Bateman funeral home of Gresham in charge. Rev. Arthur L. Hansen officiated in conjunction with the Estacada IOOF lodge. Interment followed at the Forest Lawn Memorial cemetery at Gresham. Mr. Currin, who was 88, had lived at Currinsville for many years and had been in poor health for sometime. In 1897 he married Nellie Wehrheim, who survives. He was a farmer and dairyman for many years. For about 12 years, during and after World War I, he was employed by the City of Portland, at Dodge Park, as a guard and maintenance foreman on their pipeline installation. Mr. Currin was instrumental in bringing the first telephone line established in the Currinsville area and at various times served as president and secretary. He had the first rural electricity in the area, building his own line from the electric transmission line running through his farm. As an ardent road enthusiast in early life, he helped to establish a passable wagon road between Barton and Carver. He retired to his home at Currinsville where he had lived for 25 years. The Currins celebrated their 50the wedding anniversary June, 1947 and their 61st anniversary in June 1958. He was a member of the Estacada IOOF lodge No 175 and the Rebekah lodge No. 147 for more than 50 years. Besides his widow, Nellie, he is survived by a daughter, Dora Kathleen Allen, Currinsville.1 |
