Five passengers in the car were injured,but none seriously. County police said Bennie Ollie Colyer, of 8203Roland, was traveling northeast in the 7300 block of Southside Drive,between New Cut Road and Palatka Road about 12:50 a.m. when his car leftthe road. Deputy Coroner Lloyd Roemele pronounced Colyer dead of internalinjuries at 1:15 a.m. at St. Joseph Infirmary. Admitted to St. Josephwith cuts and other injuries were Mrs. Colyer, 26; Harold R. Cardwell,23, of 3401 Prestwood Drive, and Mrs. Lynda A. Brock, 23, of 117 LyndonLane. Spouses of Cardwell and Mrs. Brock were treated at St. Joseph andreleased. Mrs. Cardwell, 22, had head cuts, and Donald Brock had chincuts. Colyer was a native of Jefferson County and had worked as amechanic for Lyndon Motors. He was a member of Poplar Level BaptistChurch. Survivors include his wife, the former Sarah Frances Ritter; twodaughters, Roberta Joanne and Kathy Marie Colyer; a son Wayne Colyer; hismother, Mrs. Goldie Roberta Colyer; his father, Bennie Walter Colyer; hisstepmother, Mrs. Shirley Ann Colyer; two brothers, Bobby Ray Colyer, ofDecatur, Ill., and David Lee Colyer, of Anchorage; a half-brother, JamesMurphy, of Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Whitaker, of Decatur, andMrs. Mary Shipp, and a half-sister, Mrs. Frances Whitaker, of Lyndon. Thefuneral will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Foreman Funeral Home, 10600Taylorsville Road, with burial in Jeffersontown Cemetery.1 |
