| Note-Shackelford | Carter Shackelford One Carter Shackelford, said to have been the son of Roger and Nancy Ann,married in Franklin County, Ky., marriage bond dated January 4, 1802,when he secured license to marry Susan Briscoe. But so far as we havebeen able to find, that marriage record is the only time his name everappears on an official document of any kind, unless mentioned inconnection with some one else. That Carter and Susan Briscoe-Shackelford had at least five children isindicated by the following records. James Briscoe died in Franklin County, Ky., and left a Will wherein hementioned among several legatees, the following: Polly Brydon, James,Thomas J., Briscoe, and Carter Shackelford. He did not mention therelationship, but we feel sure that it is safe to assume that all five ofthem were his grand children. The Will of James Briscoe was dated April 18, 1848, and probated December1853. Recorded in Will Book 2, page 245, Franklin County, Kentucky. We find the following marriages in Franklin Co., Kentucky.1 | |

| Note-Shackelford | Frederick Binkley The Binkleys appear to be one of the most prolific families that we havefound in any branch of the family, but prolific in more ways than one, asthey have produced many prominent men and women who have made their markin all walks of life. Good solid substantial citizens - all of them. Of the fourteen children of Frederick and Adeline Shackelford-Binkley,thirteen of them lived to maturity, married and reared families of theirown. Source: Shackelford Clan Magazine/ PSH -------------------------------------------------------- Frederick Binkley is buried on their farm, Frederick Binkley Cemetery. Mrs. W. Kiger of Chattanooga, TN, in 1981 mentions that, 'she had all twelve volumes of the Moravian Records of NC, which lists diaries of the ministers and is most interesting! Kent Stark Krisle said 3 Feb 1995, 'Frederick Binkley came to Tennessee with his uncles Adam and Jacob Binkley before March 1791. Frederick was a carpenter. In the spring of 1799, he, along with David Cumming, entered into a contract with John Overton to build a home for Overton. This home, called Traveller's Rest, has been restored and is open to the public. (It's at 636 Ferrell Parkway, in Nashville. It's right off Franklin Road, and there are some signs that direct you to it. It's not far from Overton High School.) The contract specified the carpenter would be paid by title to a 320 acre tract on Stone's River owned by Overton, at the rate of two dollars per acre. Frederick Binkley received title to this land on 1 Jun 1801. David Cumming was bondsman on the marriage of Frederick to Adeline. On the bond, Frederick signed his name Pinkley. The family graveyard of Frederick Binkley was originally on a hill near his home. During construction of J. Percy Priest Dam, the graves were moved to Mt. Juliet Cemetery. Adeline appeared to be living with William and Caroline Binkley when the 1860 census was taken. Frederick had died in 1857. William Frederick, son of William and Caroline, was five years old; and since we know from reports of his own children that he was born and died in the same room, the log house Frederick built must have passed into the hands of someone else before 1860, perhaps when Frederick died. *** From Tennessee 1860 Slave Schedule, edited by Ronald Vern Jackson, published by Accelerated Indexing Systems, Inc., North Salt Lake, Utah, 1990: Source: Descendants of William De Shackelford by William OatherShackleford wshack@@sonic.net ---------------------------------------- From Land Deed Genealogy of Davidson County, Tennessee, 1797-1903, Vol. 3 by Helen C. and Timothy R.
