pp 5-7 And now this information from Frank Mounts that accurately determines the descendants of William SNOOK (will dated 1760). I should repeat at this point that to date none of these branches have tied in with mine, so I am looking at them from a third person point of view. My opinion is that Frank presents the correct lineage for this family after his careful study of documents and sources. The numbers indicate generations.... [1] being the first etc. Quote: "William[1] and Catharine[1] Snook were blessed with four sons and five daughters. The sons were named John[2], William[2], George[2], and Phillip[2]. Any grandchildren who were born a Snook before January 30, 1763 would have to be a child of their son John[2] or a child of their son William[2] as they were the only sons who had children at that time (See Catharine[1] Snook's Will dated January 30, 1763.)" "We know from Deeds and Wills that William[1] and Catharine[1] had three grandsons named Peter and only three. One was born on September 25, 1758, one in January of 1762, and one January 14, 1789. To determine who the fathers are we have to go back to Catharine[1] Snook's Will, as there were two Peter Snooks born before she wrote her Will in 1763. One would have to be a son of John[2] Snook and one a son of William[2] Snook. We also know that the Peter Snook born in 1762 was a son of John[2] Snook as stated in a Bible Record on file in the Hopewell Museum. His father would have to be John[2] Snook. Therefore, the Peter Snook born September 25, 1758, is a son of William[2] Snook and is the one that served in the Revolutionary War. This contradicts 'A History of East Amwell, 1700-1800, Page 168', published by the East Amwell Bicentennial Committee, Ringoes, New Jersey, 1976. John[2] Snook did indeed have a son Peter Snook, but he was born in 1762, not 1758, and he was not in the Revolutionary War." "The third grandson of William[1] and Catharine[1] SNOOK named Peter and born in 1789 would have to be a son of George[2] SNOOK since Phillip[2] SNOOK did not have a son named Peter and the sons of John[2] and William[2] named Peter were born earlier." (*We know Phillip m Margaret Heavener/Heivner 1773, and have a complete list of their children....no son named Peter**BSW) In trying to determine who was the father of Pieter ROCKEFELLER's grandchildren, John[2] or William[2] SNOOK, let us assume and I underline assume, that William[2] SNOOK married Alice 'Else' ROCKEFELLER and had four of his fourteen children beforoe Else died leaving William, Ann, John, and Peter as stated in Rockefeller's Will dated December 6, 1763. For this statemetn to be true, all four children would have to be born before Rockefeller wrote his Will. Records show that John (son of William[2]) was the eldest son and Peter (son of William[2]) was born in 1758. Now comes the spoiler. William (son of William[2]) died May 15, 1842 at age 76 which indicates that he was born in 1766. His estate papers show that his name was William W. SNOOK and his land was sold at Public Vendue to Amos SNOOK by the Administrator of his estate, Andrew SNOOK. "In Elizabeth[3] SNOOK's (daughter of William[2]) Will he was identified as brother William SNOOK and that his land adjoined her land. This was the land sold to Amos SNOOK." "We can conclude that since William W. SNOOK (son of William[2]) was born after Rockefeller wrote his Will, then William[2] SNOOK could not be the father of Else SNUKE's children. Therefore, according to Catharine[1] SNOOK's Will, only John[2] and William[2] had children at that time. If William[2] SNOOK is not the father of Rockefeller's grandcildren, then it would have to be John[2] SNOOK." "According to the Guardianship papers, a Petition dated January 30, 1776, shows that Peter and his brother John, grandchildren of Peter ROCKEFELLER, dec'd, signed such a Petition in which they made a choice of John SNOOK to be thier Guardian until they reach the age of Twenty one Years. (Guardians of minor children were appointed to manage the financial affairs of any minor who was due an inheritance - not merely to care for a child whose parents had died). They did not state their father had died, only that their Grandfather had died. As the law read at that time, the father is enabled to dispose of the Guardianship of his Child or Children until their Age of Twenty one Years. This states that John[2] SNOOK is the father of John[3] and Peter[3] who are the grandchildren of Peter ROCKEFELLER. In the deed of Partition and Quitclaim of John SNOOK and Hannah his wife to Peter SNOOK, it is stated that John SNOOK is the father of John, whose wife is Hannah, and Peter SNOOK and if you trace the land back, it is part of the land that John[2] originally inherited from his father, William[1] SNOOK." "I believe that we have shown two different ways that it is John[2] not William[2] who married Else ROCKEFELLER." "Peter[3] SNOOK (son of William[2]) served in the Revolutionary War. He was born on Sept 25, 1758 in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon County, NJ, as stated in the declaration he made on August 15, 1832 when filing for a pension." "When his father died in 1793, Peter inherited a share of his father's land and sold it to his brother Daniel SNOOK on May 1, 1807 (see Deed Book 23, page 5). Peter and his wife Catharine both signed the Deed." "Peter[3] SNOOK (son of William[2]) married Catharine HEAVENER and had children John, Lewis, Abraham, William, Anna, Agnes, and Margaret. (Information from DAR records). All members of this family can be identified except for Agnes who married James HIGGINS through Hunterdon & Mercer County records. I can only find an Alice SNOOK HIGGINS wife of James HIGGINS listed in Cemetery records and in a Deed dated Feb 18, 1822 between James Higgins and Alice, his wife, to Abraham SNOOK." "When Peter[3] SNOOK (son of William[2]) died in Hunterdon County in 1837, his estate was not administered by William W Bradey until August 11, 1840. An inventory of his estated was taken August 10, 1840. His estate papers show that his name was Peter W SNOOK not Koonrad Peter Snook." "Peter[3] SNOOK (son of John[2]). John[2] married Alice 'Else' ROCKEFELLER and had children William, Ann, John, and Peter. After Peter was born, his mother had died by the time Pieter ROCKEFELLER wrote his Will, dated Dec 6, 1763. We do not know with certainty when Else SNOOK died or where she is buried. We only know she died sometime between the birth of Peter and the date Pieter ROCKEFELLER wrote his Will. According to cemetery records, for the Rockefeller Graveyard, a Mrs. Elsa RAKE who died in 1763 is buried there not an Else SNUKE. We do not know if Else SNUKE and Mrs. Elsa RAKE is one and the same person. It will take more searching to uncover the true identity of Mrs Elsa RAKE." "In Peter[3] SNOOK's Bible Record it states he was a son of John and was born January 1762. Peter's wife was named Rebecca and they had children Susannah, Elizabeth, John, and Enoch. Another child was named in the Bible Record as William BARNS, but I do not know what relationship he is. The only time I have seen Rebecca's name listed in any official document was in the '1798 Docket of Samuel Stout, Esquire, Justice of the Peace' on file in the New Jersy State Archives. She is listed as 'Rebeckah SNNOOK wife of Peter SNOOK miller'. This Peter SNOOK was known as the 'miller' since he inherited the Grist Mill from his father. The gravestones for Peter[3] SNOOK (son of John[2]) and his wife Rebecca are in the Harbourton Cemetery, Hopewell Twp, Mercer Co, NJ. It is believed the wymbol at the top of his gravestone represents a millstone." "The inventory of Peter[3] SNOOK's Estate, late of the Township of Amwell, was made April 13, 1843, and proved April 17, 1843. Enoch SNOOK and John SNOOK were administrators. The heirs listed in his Estate papers were John SNOOK, Enoch SNOOK, Elizabeth Craft, Peter HUNT, William HUNT, and Levi Hixson, Guardian of Susan Ann HIXSON. Only John and Enoch SNOOK and Elizabeth CRAFT were listed in the original Bible Record. Susannah who married Jonathan Hunt had predeceased her father." **End of Quote from Frank's information**,.
