Leona Rischette's two brothers Baptist and Frank were married and a brother, Henry, a priest, were not in a financial position to leave Luxembourg. The girls were expected to find work in another world. Margaret went to China. Leona came to the United States with the Dosterts, her cousins. They went to Le Mars, Iowa. She was hired as a first class cook. She could read English and, as a result, she could follow recipes preparing anything they wanted. Pie baking was her speciality, turning out forty to fifty pies a day. Leona and her cousin went to Grand Forks, North Dakota to visit the Dostert's cousin, Mrs. Jacob Dobmeier. There began the romance of Aloysius Kueber and Leona Rischette.5
Biography
Lucy Kueber Spain said Leona spoke fluent French, German, and Luxembourgoise but naturally lost what she didn't use. Several years after she arrived she had an opportunity to speak with some new arrivals from Luxembourg but found she had lost most of the language.
Lucy talked about a 3rd cousin Schroeder also in LeMars, Iowa who discovered the relationship when she visited Luxembourg and saw a picture there of Leonie.
Louis Peter Kueber believed Leonie may have worked as a maid in Dubuque, Iowa before meeting Aloysius. Louis's brother Joe agreed with that and said she was working as a domestic in East Grand Forks when she met Aloysius.
Leona travelled to Luxembourg about 1906 About 1906 A.L. sold a load of pigs and gave Leonie $2500 to visit Luxembourg which she did right away and took Peg with her. (source: Lucy Kueber Spain).

Marriage
January 28, 1884
He married Ottilia Knehr, daughter of (given name not known) Knehr, January 28, 1884 in Frazee, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. John George Kueber apparently travelled back to Germany in 1883 to find a new wife and returned with Ottilia Knehr. There have been two versions told of how John George Kueber found Ottilia to be his new wife. One version of the story passed down is because Minnesota was short of young women, John George sent back to Germany for a bride using the picture of his eldest son, Aloysius (A. Luis), as incentive. When the bride arrived, A Luis, who was then 21, was sent packing. Whether there was a choice or not is not known but the young woman, Ottila Knehr(Kuehr), did then marry John George. A. Luis did not speak of or to his father thereafter. There are no written facts to document this story but the story was related on more than one occasion and by more than one person. The other version of the story is said to be Ottilia's account of her courtship by John George Kueber. She said that after he lost his wife he returned to Germany in search of a bride. They met in Germany and she returned to America with him (not yet married). She then stayed with relatives in New York while John George went to his home in Minnesota to "break the news" to his family of having a new step-mother. Months later she arrived in Perham where they were married. The only documentation found so far is the passenger list of the ship on which Ottilia apparently arrived in New York. The S.S. Elbe from Bremen arrived in New York on December 17, 1883. Passenger #322 listed is Ottilie Kuber, female, age 22, no occupation, a citizen of Germany, and traveling in Steerage B. Passenger #334 listed is George Kuper, age 48, a farmer, a citizen of the United States, and traveling in Steerage C. Although this is not ideal documentation, it appears likely that these two passengers are Ottilia and John George. The ages are about right: Ottilia was actually 21 at that time and John George was actually 49. Why Ottilia would be listed with the surname of Kuber is puzzling. Roman Catholic.7,6
