Contrib: Auto Accident on Hgwy. near Pewee Valley THE OLDHAM ERA AUGUST 12, 1938 Women isKilled in Automobile Accident On Aug. 7th Mrs. Lula Hedges, 54 years old of Louisville, formerly ofBuckner died at the Pewee Valley Hosp. Sunday afternoon, a short timeafter she was injured in an automobile accident which occurred on theBrownsboro Rd. near Crestwood. The car which was driven by her son,Hillery Hedges, 25, collided with a truck travelling East and driven byAlbert Hayden 33, of Eminence. Mrs. Hedges suffered multible lacerations of the head and legs, afractured right thigh, a dislocated left thigh and internal injuries. Shedied a few minutes after she was admitted to the Hospital. Hillery Hedges was treated for several cuts and bruises and James Sams ofValley Station, nephew of Hedges, received a small fracture of the rightarm, cuts and bruises. The driver of the truck was uninjured and twopassengers he had picked up on the road were also unhurt. It was said that the truck was on the wrong side of the road and thedriver swerved to avoid hitting the automobile but was unable to avoidthe crash. Mrs. Hedges is survived by another son, Joe Hedges, four daughters, MissSally Hedges, Mrs. Muriel Ott, Mrs. Pearl Warren of LaGrange, and Mrs.Katie O'Brien of Valley Station. The family formerly lived for severalyears near Buckner. FOOTNOTE: Above Miss Sally Hedges is Ellen Marie, (called Sally),Muriel's twin sister. Mrs. Pearl Warren is Ruth Marie Hedges who marriedPearl Warren. Someone forgot to mention Lula's other son, Thomas L.Hedges.(see story below)* *Lula had been picking blackberries with Hillery at Lake Louisvilla.Lula's son, Tom, & Bernadine,(his wife), her cousin Henry Zeitz and AuntJane (Henry's mother) & others were camping, when she (Lula), Hillery,and James Sams were hit by a truck, and Lula was killed . The familysaw the accident as they left shortly after Lula and others in her car,and commented what a big accident was up the road so they turned and wentthe other way taking the long way home.
