Thomas enlisted in the Continental Army in Col Washingt's command; he wasthence promoted to the Reigiment of Dragoons commanded by Col. GeorgeBaylor, in 1780 he was a lieutenant of calvalry in Col WashingtonsPartisan Legion; he ws discharged on the Santee River in S. Carolina atthe close of the war; and died in Norfolk, Va. on his way home. A claimfor bounty on
account of his military services was made to the state of Virginia in1835 by 'his heirs-at=law. His father died about two years prior to hisson's death -- that his brother John was the oldest and the father'sheir-at-law. Said John Gordon died between 1780 and 1800, intestate, andhis only heirs were -- William, John, Francis and Frances Gordon.'

AT his request you will issue Exchange warrant for500 acres his share and send to him at Summerville, Genl Land Office. Itransmit at the request of William R. Gordon, warrant 8425 for 2000 acresin favor of the heirs of Captain Thomas Gordain, to be subdivided.'Signed James Whitcomb, Commissioner.'
