He tried and failed to get the idea across to the farmer so he took some hay, piled it into a nest, sat on the hay and acted like a chicken cackling. The farmer got the idea and put down his gun and gave the men a big meal.1 |

Rites hled for Lamar Fairey
Funeral services for Staff Sergeant Edward Lamar Fairey, 37, who was killed in a plane crash near Durango, Colorado, February 25, were conducted Sunday at 4pm from the Chapel fo the Ott Funeral Home by Rev. Johnnie Marion, the Rev. Lewis M. Adams and Chaplin Barnett. Burial was in the Ott Cemetery.
Staff Sergeant Fairey was a native of Branchville and was a graduate of Branchville High School in 1943. He enlisted in the service and was a veteran of World War II. He served with the 8th Air Force in England and flew 35 combat missions over Germany and the Berlin Airlift for nine months.
He was discharged in 1949 and reentered the service in 1955. he had been stationed at Shaw Air Force Base and attached to the 837th O.P.S. squadron since that time. He was a member of the West Sumter Christian Church.
Surviving are his widow; Mrs. Barbara Inabinet Fairey; three daughters, Gail, Glenda and Susan Fairey, all of Shaw Air Force Base; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Nipson Fairey of Branchville; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur Godfrey and Mrs. Rufus Rhoad, both of Branchville, Mrs. Herbert Thomas of Goldsboro, NC., and Mrs. Billy Weaver of Reno, NV., and a number of nieces and nephews.1 |
