Edna had originally filed for George's pension after his death....6 Apr1863....a Peter Hysong and her brother Daniel McGowen witnessed hersignature...X...she signed with an X as she could not write.

James Smith signed an affidavit for Edna when she petitioned to get George's pension after Ruell died....they lived close to each other.
Edna applied for George's Army pension....after her last husband had died....she was old and didn't have hardly anything to live on as he left her nothing....when she filed this time ....there were affidavits signedby James Smith....68 yrs old....Harrison Twp. Boone Co. who lived 2 miles from Edna....this was Edna's brother-in-law...married to Susanna.1

Mrs. Edna A. Johnson expired at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home on Powell street and found unconcious as the result of apoplexy, with which she was stricken Saturday morning, at seven o'clock when she was found unconscious.
Mrs. Johnson was 70 years, 6 months and 14 days old, having been born in Hendricks county, Ind., Dec. 24, 1841. She has been a resident of Boone County for the past sixty years.
She was three times married, the first time to George Baldwin, who died in January, 1862: the second time in 1862 to Sanford Hinton, who died March 25, 1899, and the third time in 1900 to Ruell Johnson, who died in 1906. the children living are John T. Baldwin, of this county, Jas.Baldwin, of Brown County: Oliver P. Hinton, of this city. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Susanna Smith of this county, two half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Dickerson, of Montgomery County, and Mrs. Josephine Moore, of Kentucky, and three half-brothers. James, Benjamin and Cagia Gowins, of Kentucky.
She was a member of the Apostolic Faith church. The funeral will be held at Mt. Union at 10'30 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. William Cox officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Shirley. Burial will be in Mt. Union cemetery.5

According to Civil War records of Boone Co.it says: George Baldwin mustered 11 Aug 1862 as Private CoF 86 IndianaInfantry.....died 15 Jan 1863 of Wounds.......George is listed on theUnion Soldiers Roll of Honor as such:GEORGE BALDWIN - buried NashvilleNatl. Cemetery , near Nashville, TN, 2045 Private, Co.,F, 86th Infantry,died Jan 16, 1863 Buried Sect. A, Grave #1224.

I received George's Civil War pension records and in those records itstates that Pvt. George Baldwin in Co.F commanded by Capt, Wm.Simms...86th Reg. of Ind. Inf. Vol. in the War of 1861....who died atMufreesborogh, TN. 15th Jan 1863....commanded by Col.O.S. Hamilton waswounded at the Battle of Stone River 31 Dec 1862....and died from hiswounds on the date stated above. Above is stated a muster ed indate....but his papers said mustered into service 4 Sep1862...Indianapolis, IN. to serve 3 years.

Ruel Johnson
Ruel Johnson died, Tuesday at 12 o'clock at his residence four and one-half miles southwest of the city. Death was caused by cancer of the face, he having been ill two years. The deceased was born in this county in August 1845, being 57 years and 10 months old. A widow and two sons survive him the latter being: John Johnson of Whitestown, and Frank Johnson of Indianapolis. He was a member of the Holiness Christian Church of this city. Funeral service were held at Mt. Union yesterday afternoon at 2o'clock, Rev.McGowan officiating. Burial at Mt. Union Cemetery.1

The following information on Daniel's family line was supplied by SusanHardman Webb..daughter of Jessie May Hoenk Hardman whose Mother-in-lawwas Elsie Caroline Gowens......He died in the Soldiers Home and is alsoburied there. He was shot by a man who thought his gun was loaded andwas rushed to the hospital and died.N.H.D.V.S..........by N.J. White

He was a Pvt. in K CO. 140 Re't. IN. Infantry. He was 5 Ft. 6 In. tall,his complexion was light, his eyes were blue and his hair was light. Hewas a farmer. He enlisted Oct. 5, 1864 in Indianapolis,Marion Co., IN.He was mustered out 11 July 1865 at Greensborough, N.C. In 1890 he filedfor a pension. Nancy later received a pension for his services.
He and his wife were separated. He went to Marion, IN.

Daniel also signed an affidavit for Edna Ann when she was trying to getthe pension after George died.....this was on April 6, 1863.....he couldnot write as he signed with an X.
