Vincent Wade's family were some of the earliest pioneers in Kentucky. He served in the Kentucky Legislature, but like many other politicians in that state, was discontent with living conditions there, so he and Phoebe brought their family to Texas in 1845. They first settled on land where the town of Crandall is located, but later moved to an area south of there near where the Warsaw Community is located.
All of Vincent's children except Ann, their eldest, who was married and remained in Kentucky and a son, Henry, who died as a young child, came to Texas with him and Phoebe.
In 1847, when Phoebe was pregnant with her second daughter, Vincent died suddenly, leaving her a young widow with six sons to care for.
It is not known where Vincent is buried, but he may possibly be buried in an empty space next to Phoebe at the Wade Family Cemetery, in an unmarked grave.
Note: Some researchers say Vincent died in Graves County, Kentucky when he returned there to finalize some business, and that he is also buried there.1 |
