There was an immediate election of field officers. The regiment's early campaigns were in the Indian Territory and Arkansas. It participated in the following actions: Chustenahlah (December 26, 1861) Elkhorn Tavern or Pea Ridge (March 7-8, 1862) In March 1862 the 6th Texas Cavalry, with other Confederate troops in Arkansas, was ordered across the Mississippi River to reinforce the Confederate army at Corinth. In May the 6th Texas Cavalry was reorganized for "three years or the war" under the Confederate conscription law. There was a new election of officers, and Maj. Lawrence Sullivan Ross, the former Texas Ranger, was chosen as the new colonel. The regiment had been dismounted when it left Arkansas, and it participated as infantry in the following actions in Mississippi: Corinth Campaign (April-June 1862) Corinth (October 3-4, 1862) Hatchie Bridge (October 5, 1862) The 6th Texas Cavalry lost 55 men killed, 63 wounded, and 30 missing in action at Corinth and Hatchie Bridge. In late 1862 the 6th Texas Cavalry was remounted and assigned to the Texas cavalry brigade that was commanded by Lt. Col. John S. Griffith, then by Brig. Gen. John W. Whitfield, and - from December 1863 - by Brig. Gen. Lawrence Sullivan "Sul" Ross. The Texas Brigade campaigned in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. The 6th Texas Cavalry participated in the following actions: Oakland (December 3, 1862) Holly Springs (December 20, 1862) Davis' Mill (December 21, 1862) Middleburg (December 24, 1862) Thompson's Station (March 5, 1863) Vicksburg Campaign (May-July 1863) Big Black River (July 5, 1864) Siege of Jackson (July 9-16, 1863) Clinton (July 16, 1863) Canton (July 17, 1863) Bogue Chitto Creek (October 16-17, 1863) From October to December 1863, the 6th Texas Cavalry served with the 1st Mississippi Cavalry in a small brigade, under the command of its colonel, Lawrence S. Ross. During this time, the regiment participated in a raid on the Memphis & Charleston Railroad. Wolf River Bridge (December 3-4, 1863) In December 1863 the 6th Texas Cavalry rejoined the Texas brigade when Ross was promoted to command it. Yazoo Pass (February 3-4, 1864) Meridian Campaign (February 1864) Yazoo City (March 5, 1864) In May 1864 Ross' Brigade marched to Georgia to join Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate Army of Tennessee, which was trying to prevent Union Gen. William T. Sherman from taking Atlanta. The 6th Texas Cavalry spent 112 consecutive days under fire. I having heretofore given and settled in full with my daughters Stella Underwood and Mae Wade their respective shares of the whole of my estate the same having been paid to them in Vendor's Lien notes executed to me by W.M. Locke in the sum of $2,400.00 they therefore are not made beneficiaries in this will. 5th. My will is that my executors hereinafter appointed shall out of the proceeds of my Estate pay to my wife Alace Wade, eight hundred dollars in addition to the life estate heretofore bequeathed to her herein. 6th. My will is that my executor shall pay to my daughter Dona Wade Seven Hundred dollars in addition to the bequest herein before made to her. 7th. My will is that after the paying the necessary expenses of administering upon my Estate under this will, that the residue of my estate remaining in their hands shall be by them divided equally share and share alike between my sons, B.J. Wade, L.W. Wade, Will T. Wade, J.B. Wade, and the heirs of H.C. Wade deceased, deducting from the share of the heirs of H.C. Wade one hundred dollars, heretofore advanced and paid to them. 8th.
