Sixth Texas Cavalry
The regiment [The Rockwall Cavalry] was mustered into the service of the Confederate States for 12 months at Camp Bartow, near Dallas, on September 9. There was an immediate election of field officers.
The regiment's early campaigns were in the Indian Territory and Arkansas. It participated in the following actions:
Chustenahlah (December 26, 1861)
Elkhorn Tavern or Pea Ridge (March 7-8, 1862)
In March 1862 the 6th Texas Cavalry, with other Confederate troops in Arkansas, was ordered across the Mississippi River to reinforce the Confederate army at Corinth. In May the 6th Texas Cavalry was reorganized for "three years or the war" under the Confederate conscription law. There was a new election of officers, and Maj. Lawrence Sullivan Ross, the former Texas Ranger, was chosen as the new colonel. The regiment had been dismounted when it left Arkansas, and it participated as infantry in the following actions in Mississippi:
Corinth Campaign (April-June 1862)
Corinth (October 3-4, 1862)
Hatchie Bridge (October 5, 1862)
The 6th Texas Cavalry lost 55 men killed, 63 wounded, and 30 missing in action at Corinth and Hatchie Bridge.
In late 1862 the 6th Texas Cavalry was remounted and assigned to the Texas cavalry brigade that was commanded by Lt. Col. John S. Griffith, then by Brig. Gen. John W. Whitfield, and - from December 1863 - by Brig. Gen. Lawrence Sullivan "Sul" Ross. The Texas Brigade campaigned in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. The 6th Texas Cavalry participated in the following actions:
Oakland (December 3, 1862)

Davis' Mill (December 21, 1862)
Middleburg (December 24, 1862)
Thompson's Station (March 5, 1863)
Vicksburg Campaign (May-July 1863)

From October to December 1863, the 6th Texas Cavalry served with the 1st Mississippi Cavalry in a small brigade, under the command of its colonel, Lawrence S. Ross. During this time, the regiment participated in a raid on the Memphis & Charleston Railroad.
Wolf River Bridge (December 3-4, 1863)
In December 1863 the 6th Texas Cavalry rejoined the Texas brigade when Ross was promoted to command it.
Yazoo Pass (February 3-4, 1864)
Meridian Campaign (February 1864)

In May 1864 Ross' Brigade marched to Georgia to join Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate Army of Tennessee, which was trying to prevent Union Gen. William T. Sherman from taking Atlanta. The 6th Texas Cavalry spent 112 consecutive days under fire.

After the Fall of Atlanta, the Army of Tennessee, now under Gen. John B. Hood, advanced into North Georgia and Alabama. In November 1864 Hood launched his invasion of Tennessee. Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry, with Ross' Brigade and the 6th Texas Cavalry, led the advance.

When Hood was defeated at Nashville on December 16, Forrest's cavalry covered his retreat to Alabama.

I, T.U. Wade of the County and State aforesaid, being [of] sound mind and of disposing memory do hereby make and declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking all wills heretofore by me made, do by these presents, and by this will, desire and bequeath my spirit to the God who gave it and my body to Mother earth from whence it came.
1st. My wish and will is that after my death my body shall receive a desent (sic.) burial suitable to my station in life in the family burial ground by the side of my former wife Mary Wade, and that a suitable tombstone be erected at my grave to mark my last resting place.
2nd. My wish and will is that all of my just debts be paid out of the revenues of my estate by my executor hereinafter appointed.
3rd. I will and set apart the home upon which I now live to my wife Allace Wade for and during her natural life, and at her death the same to decend (sic.) to and become the property of my daughter Donna Wade she to own the same in fee simple, said homestead consists of about 50 acres more or less on the Nathan Butler and R. Ballard surveys, reserving to W.B. Wade and Mart McCaulskey the graveyard thereon heretofore conveyed by deed to them.
4th. I having heretofore given and settled in full with my daughters Stella Underwood and Mae Wade their respective shares of the whole of my estate the same having been paid to them in Vendor's Lien notes executed to me by W.M. Locke in the sum of $2,400.00 they therefore are not made beneficiaries in this will.
5th. My will is that my executors hereinafter appointed shall out of the proceeds of my Estate pay to my wife Alace Wade, eight hundred dollars in addition to the life estate heretofore bequeathed to her herein.
6th. My will is that my executor shall pay to my daughter Dona Wade Seven Hundred dollars in addition to the bequest herein before made to her.
7th. My will is that after the paying the necessary expenses of administering upon my Estate under this will, that the residue of my estate remaining in their hands shall be by them divided equally share and share alike between my sons, B.J. Wade, L.W. Wade, Will T. Wade, J.B. Wade, and the heirs of H.C. Wade deceased, deducting from the share of the heirs of H.C. Wade one hundred dollars, heretofore advanced and paid to them.
8th. My wish and my will is that my farming tools, horses, hogs +c shall remain with the homestead, some to pass to the beneficiaries herein made for said homestead.
I hereby declare this to be my last will and testament, and sign the same at my home in the presence of George R. Holt and Walter M. Locke both of whom I ask to sign the same as witnesses, and I hereby appoint the said George R. Holt the executor hereof and my wish is that he be not required to give bond. Done this the 26th day, Oct. A.D. 1911.

In the county Court of Rockwall County, Texas, Jan. Term, 1915.
On this, the 19th day of Jan., 1915, personally appeared in open Court, W.M. Locke, who being duly sworn, deposes and says that on the 26th day of Oct., 1911, he was present and saw T.U. Wade sign the instrument filed in this court on the 26th day of Oct., 1914, and now show to him bearing date 26th day of Oct., 1911, and purporting to be the last will of him, the said T.U. Wade, and heard him publish and declare the same to be his last will and testament; that at the time of signing and publishing the same, the said T.U. Wade was over twenty-one years of age and of sound mind, that this affiant and George R. Holt whose signature appears on said instrument on said 26th day of Oct, 1911, then being credible witness above the age of fourteens years subscribed to their names as witnesses to the same in the presence and at the request of the said T.U. Wade, testator, and in the presence of each other.
That afterwards, on the 23rd day of Oct, 1914, the said T.U. Wade died in Rockwall County, Texas, in which he had his domicile at and before his death, and without having revoked said will so far as know to affiant. W.M. Locke.
